I am continuing to work on this drawing entitled "Whirlpool." The lower part is painted with Japanese pigment which looks like ink. Even though I rarely do this, I wanted to stay true to the original idea of a soft figure "dissolving" into nothingness by leaving the white of the paper as the background; but now I am considering painting it black to bring out the lightness of the figure...
When I first heard about the events in Japan this year, this is the image that came to my mind. Once I finish drawing the figure (whose stillness is inspired by Butoh), the lower part of the composition will be painted with Japanese pigments.
While in Italy, I painted Monte Labbro & Merigar. I never finished this painting because people started coming up to talk to me and see what I was working on, and then I had to go. I still like it, though; and it no longer feels unfinished to me.
At Place Sainte-Anne in Montpellier this afternoon - conversing and listening to a band rehearsal before tonight's Fête de la Musique.
A quiet afternoon on the terrace - before eating the BEST ice cream in the world at Parad`ice and before being attacked by mosquitoes.
1st day of summer vacation in S. France. I decided to practice watercolor painting because it's a medium that I don't usually use. This is the first sketch I made of a bird that came to play a few notes on a guitar.
Come see my work and the work of other artists June 10th and 11th at:
